The Importance of Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

Dr. Joseph Livergood utilizes the Webster Technique in pregnancy chiropractic. Chiropractic care in pregnancy is vital to the normal physiological function of both the mother and baby throughout pregnancy and birth. More women and birth providers are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care in pregnancy and recognize this area of expertise through Webster Certification.

Why get chiropractic care during pregnancy?

Chiropractic spinal and pelvic adjustments can reduce or resolve pregnancy discomforts such as back pain, hip pain, sciatica, and heartburn. Chiropractic helps with optimal fetal positioning by helping the pelvis to be symmetrical. This, in turn, helps the uterus to be more symmetrical. Adjustments can help the baby to fit the brim better to engage in time to help stimulate cervical ripening. Adjustments also make the pelvis more flexible so that pelvic joints move more easily in labor.

What will I experience in my first visit?

First, we will start with a physical exam and history. You will then be adjusted using the Webster technique. This is a specific adjustment for pregnancy. You will then lay on their belly with a special pregnancy pillow (YAY!). Dr. Livergood will be pushing on your back, hips, checking your range of motion, muscle tension, stretching, and massaging. You will then be given stretches and exercises to do at home. Afterwards, if desired, you will be put on hydrotherapy (hydromassage).

When can I start chiropractic care?

You can come in immediately all the way through 40+ weeks under discretion from your OB/GYN.
